For me that is BMW and if I look at the BMW stable, anything beyond 2006 is turbo and driver's assists that takes away the experience of driving from the driver. I want a car that embodies the peak of what ICE cars were. If you think about it, the age of the ICE cars are over, from now on it is just electric all the way. It is really about the philosophy of cars. Thanks for the advice For me the E46 M3 will keep it's value, age gracefully and become a modern classic. Please remember that I am a total newbie, so I would like to choose a car that is fairly good, so all advise, warnings and expertise is welcomed, even the negative stuff. What is available out there right now, if any? As these were meant to be thrashed, what else must be looked out for in cars that might have been driven hard.Ħ. Apart from the subframe, vanos, big ends, mains, cooling and miscellaneous breakages, what else must be looked out for?ĥ. What is the general asking price? (preferably from a fanatics point of view)Ĥ. What is the availability like in South Africa?ģ. What is the difference between a normal M3 and the CSL (if any)? Personally I think this was the ultimate BMW between old and new, NA and Turbo, however I stand to be corrected if there are alternate views on this forum.ġ. I am thinking of acquiring a late model BMW E46 M3 Coupe powered by the NA S54.

Based on all this, plus watching the M3 market get nuttier and nuttier, we would probably recommend snapping it up, maintaining it, enjoying it, and watching the interest climb.I am a noob with BMWs but I am an avid fan of motor vehicles in general.

It’s rare, and then rare again, thanks to the signature color, has a factory-installed manual gearbox, and it’s in like-new condition. With modified examples of E46 M3 ZCPs selling in the mid-30s, we don’t think the asking price of this one is out of line. Located in Vancouver, British Columbia, the import papers are ready to go and the seller will ship at buyer’s expense. Having had a recent PPI from a BMW dealership and an E46 M3 specialty shop, the car is said to be in immaculate condition with no outstanding issues. That alone might be worth the asking price of entry.

Building on that, the post furthers that the car is in full OEM specification and has thankfully never been modified. This Interlagos Blue E46 M3 has travelled 34k miles from new, features the M Texture Alcantara interior, and is factory equipped with a 6-speed manual, which the seller says is not a manual swap.

Under the hood, drivers enjoyed the same 333hp, 3.2L inline 6-cylinder engine as in all the other M3s, except the GTR which had a V8, but does that really count here? Of all the E46 M3s sold, and there’s been nearly 100,000 units in total, only 2,410 ZCPs were sold in the USA, and of those, only 843 were painted Interlagos. Ticking the ZCP box brought a handsome list of performance additives to an already zestful car – things like larger, but lighter, staggered 19-inch spun-cast BBS RC alloy wheels, stiffer springs, quick-ratio steering, special Alcantera steering wheel, M-track mode for electronic stability control, larger front brake rotors, specialized rear brake calipers with larger pistons, unique ZCP milled aluminum effect interior trim, and a signature color for ZCP cars, Interlagos Blue, which wasn’t even available through BMW Individual – it was only available on a Competition Package car. As such, these E46s are beginning to command some serious coin, especially if they happen to be equipped with the Competition Package, or ZCP, like this one. And if you’re a BMW zealot, driving a Benz is akin to – well, it’s not a BMW, let’s leave it at that. It’s not that these latter cars are bad, they’re just a lot more involved to work on, heavier, and, some say, disconnected, more like driving a Mercedes-Benz. The M-fans say this largely because the E46 was the last of the normally aspirated inline 6-cylinders before the V8s and inline 6-turbos came to town. With the E30 as the first to bear the M3 nomenclature back in the 1980s, and selling for money equivalent to small yachts, many enthusiasts agree the last of the great M3s was the E46 of 2000-2006. M3 pricing has been on track to make it the next Porsche 911 – or maybe it’s already arrived and starting in on Ferrari territory, but for certain and by far, they’re proving themselves as exquisite investments.
